Food Combining for Indigestion

Posted by admin on April 30th, 2008 — Posted in Medical Stuff

I’d like to share with you some basic food combining rules as set forth by the late Dr. Herbert Shelton many years ago.

A couple of comments before we get to the rules.

First, the medical establishment says you’re wasting your time if try food combining to help gas and indigestion problems.

Instead of paying attention to the types of foods you eat (combine) together, the folks in white coats claim you can cure your gas and indigestion problems by popping pills or swallowing some prescription goop. Unfortunately, besides being expensive and unnatural, these prescription and over-the-counter “cure” of course have side effects that are often as bad as the gas or indigestion you’re trying to solve.

Well, to the naysayers who roll their eyes and turn up their noses to food combining, I have a very simple test. Try the natural approach of food combining for one week, and if your gas and indigestion problems don’t improve dramatically, I’d be quite surprised.

Basic Food Combining Rules

* Eat acids and starches at separate meals. Acids neutralize the alkaline medium required for starch digestion and the result is fermentation and indigestion.

* Eat protein foods and carbohydrate foods at separate meals. Protein foods require an acid medium for digestion.

* Eat but one kind of protein food at a meal.

* Eat proteins and acid foods at separate meals. The acids of acid foods inhibit the secretion of the digestive acids required for protein digestion. Undigested protein putrefies in bacterial decomposition and produces some potent poisons.

* Eat fats and proteins at separate meals. Some foods, especially nuts, are over 50% fat and require hours for digestion.

* Eat sugars (fruits) and proteins at separate meals.

* Eat sugars (fruits) and starchy foods at separate meals. Fruits undergo no digestion in the stomach and are held up if eaten with foods that require digestion in the stomach.

* Eat melons alone. They combine with almost no other food.

* Desert the desserts. Eaten on top of meals they lie heavy on the stomach, requiring no digestion there, and ferment. Bacteria turn them into alcohols and vinegars and acetic acids.

Food combining works for a lot people.

It’s free, it’s simple, and you can do it yourself.

Who could ask for a better gas and/or indigestion aid?

A Buyers Guide to Medical Insurance

Posted by admin on April 30th, 2008 — Posted in World Of Finance

Buying travel health insurance can be a complex task. There are
so many different plans - each with different benefits and
restrictions.

It is important to shop wisely for trip insurance. Many people
buy coverage that seems inexpensive only to find out that they
are not adequately covered when a medical emergency occurs.
Below are a few key questions you should ask your insurance
provider before purchasing trip insurance:

- What is not covered by the policy? Insurance companies call
these “exclusions,” and every policy has them.

- Are there specific exclusions relating to sports or other
activities?

- Does the plan have a deductible that you must pay each time
you file a claim?

- Does the plan deny benefits if your medical emergency arises
because of a “pre-existing condition or health problem”?

Knowing the answers to these questions can help you avoid
unpleasant surprises when you make a claim. Make sure you
understand exactly what your trip insurance plan covers. When in
doubt, call your insurer. A reputable insurance company can give
you straight answers to your questions. Most offer toll free
numbers so you can call them directly from wherever you are.

If you find that a plan has too many restrictions and
complications, or that your questions are not being answered
satisfactorily, do not hesitate to look somewhere else.

A comprehensive travel health insurance plan usually covers the
following emergency medical expenses:

- Hospital accommodations - Medical bills such as those for a
physician, surgeon, and anesthetist

- Ambulances

- Diagnostic services such as laboratory tests and x-rays -
Private registered nurses

- Medical aids such as slings or splints, and the temporary
rental of wheelchairs or walkers

- Prescription drugs

- Cost of returning a deceased back home

Remember that when it comes to insurance, you get what you pay
for. When shopping around for trip insurance, it is important to
keep in mind that not all insurance policies are alike. Be aware
of minor price variations between insurance companies (the
cheapest may not be the best company to deal with when you have
a claim.)

How To Start An Online Business

Posted by admin on April 30th, 2008 — Posted in Commerce World

Starting an online business is, for some, a difficult decision to make. Choosing which home based business to become affiliated with is an even harder decision. It is important to find an online business that will generate a profit in the shortest time possible.

In starting an online business, it is important to consider what type of business will be suited to your type of personality. For example, if you are an outgoing and sociable person, you might be better suited for an online business involving sales. On the other hand, if you are introverted and shy, your personality might be better suited towards data entry.

In starting an online business at home, it is good to look at your past experiences and jobs. If you were previously employed with a marketing firm, then maybe you should
consider letting them know you have started your own online marketing and public relations business. They might hire you to do freelance work for them. Another example is if you were a secretary or still work as a secretary, you can start an online virtual secretarial or related enterprise. Regardless of the type of online business you start with,
it must be something that you enjoy doing.

After you have decided on what online business that would be good for your personality and previous work experience, it is necessary to consider the time commitment involved
in making your dream into a reality. In order to make this into a reality, you should consider writing a business plan for yourself.

The business plan should include the online business’s name along with your company’s finances such as the amount of money you would like to make in order to achieve a profit. Also, it is a good idea to write down the projected costs that your online business might incur. These would include buying office equipment and marketing ads.

If you are considering registering to sell another company’s products online, it is important to investigate the company before signing up. If the company promises large sums of wealth that can be made in a short period of time, it is advised that you stay away from them. Make a point to search forums and newsgroups online to see if anyone has reported the company as a scam.

If you plan carefully and give much thought to your decisions, you should be able to find many similar onine businesses with proven success. There is no need to re-invent the wheel. Take advantage of the experience of successful marketing experts by purchasing e-books, subscribing to e-zines and e-courses offered by the many people making modest and even hugh incomes from their home-based online businesses.

The Hidden Part of Herbal Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2008 — Posted in Best Gender Issue Tips

Despite significant performances in the erectile dysfunction (ED) pharmacological treatment, there is still a fast growing demand and interest for herbal treatments. This situation may be attributed to the fact that internet offers very easy and confidential purchase of nonprescription products. On the other hand, people are seduced by the lower costs of herbal treatments compared to some prescription drugs.

The problem is the efficacy and safety of these treatments is not established in a right way. Instead of accurate scientific data and information provided by medically trained personnel, most of websites show third party testimonials from people like “Paul G. from Texas”.

You should know that most of the time you receive only half of the true, the positive one. The rest of true including side effects, contraindications and severe complications remains unexposed.

Let’s see some examples.

Gingko biloba has been proved to relax vascular smooth muscle. This way of action is considered to contribute to an improvement in ED. This is the positive half. The negative one includes a number of side effects like diarrhea, vomiting, headaches and allergic skin reactions reported after its consumption. It is also concerning that this product can cause bleeding disorders by increasing the action of anticoagulants such as aspirin or warfarin to. By consequence Gingko biloba is strong contraindicated in patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders receiving anticoagulants as treatment.

Gingseng’s effectiveness in improving parameters of erectile function such as duration and rigidity of erection have been demonstrated in many clinical studies. Well documented adverse effects of ginseng include dermatitis and gastrointestinal disturbances. Gingseng products are therefore contraindicated in patients with acute bronchitis and inflammatory disease.

Yohimbine has been found to improve male erections. On the other hand it causes several side effects including sweating, headaches and hypertension, likely to have severe complications in men with cardiovascular disease.

In conclusion, purchasing herbal treatments from the internet is easy and convenient. Most difficult is acquiring all medical information.

Overcoming Voice Mail Challenges

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2008 — Posted in Sales Parlor

If you are in the business of sales, than ultimately, cold calling is part of your weekly, if not daily routine.

Let’s face it, cold calling just isn’t very exciting, and you need to make many cold calls in order to have success.

During my days working as a loan officer for a mortgage company, I would spend two and a half hours each night, Monday through Friday banging out my cold calls.

My goal was to take at least three applications per evening, resulting in fifteen applications per week, with a goal of turning at least three of the fifteen applications into actual loans.

I faced many challenges during those evenings of cold calling. Such as hang ups, and people saying things such as “I already took care of that,” and “take me off of your calling list,” etc.

One other challenge I came upon was the answering machine. There was nothing worse than selling to a machine.

But after much rejection from the actual live human beings I was dealing with on a nightly basis, I began to think of the answering machine as my friend.

I would use the answering machine as a tool to have my potential customers get to know me.

I would speak in a friendly upbeat voice, introducing myself and the company I worked for.

But, I would not just leave it at that. I would take the opportunity to describe in brief a product we had available that I believed would meet their needs.

I always kept it short and sweet, not giving the customer an opportunity to delete me because my message was long and drawn out.

Leaving your name and number simply is not enough to entice a customer to call you back, especially when cold calling.

So dangle a carrot in the way of one of your products and there will be a good chance your customer will call you back.

Which Ladder Should You Choose?

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2008 — Posted in Home Improvement

There are many jobs that need to be done within and around the home but which are made much easier by using a ladder to reach those hard to get to places. For example, cleaning windows or replacing roof tiles are very difficult to accomplish without having a ladder to assist you in reaching the required height. On a smaller scale, you may find that it is useful to purchase a set of stepladders for jobs within the home, when painting ceilings, for example, or reaching items from high shelves in your kitchen cupboards.

There are two basic types of ladder available - the rigid ladder and the rope ladder. I cannot think of an occasion in the home where a rope ladder would be required and a rigid ladder would not suffice, so I am going to concentrate only on rigid ladders. Almost all rigid ladders are portable and as such they are most commonly made of aluminium. This material is lightweight and yet sturdy, making it the ideal material for a ladder. The horizontal steps of a ladder are known as rungs, but less commonly known is the fact that the vertical sides of the ladder are called stiles. For those who use ladders regularly and have a certain level of agility, the ladder can be descended by sliding down the stiles, rather than the rungs. This is not recommended for those who are not confident in doing so though, as care must always be taken when using a ladder.

Rigid ladders come in various styles, such as the fixed ladder - your standard ladder consisting of two stiles joined by several rungs, the extension ladder - a fixed ladder which has been divided into more than one part for easier storage and which can be extended to increase the height of the ladder, the telescopic ladder - this works on the same principle as the extension ladder but is made of pieces of tubing which slide inside one another for even more compact storage, and the stepladder. The stepladder is much smaller, and is usually used for indoor jobs. This consists of a frame which opens into a V shape with steps up one side. The V formation allows it to be freestanding, whereas the other types of ladder need to be leant against a stable surface, such as a wall, before they can be ascended.

When using a rigid ladder it is important to ensure the ladder is safe before it is climbed. It is recommended that the distance from the base of the ladder to the surface it is leant against is a quarter of the height of the ladder. If the angle is greater the ladder can lose its grip and slide down the wall, if it is smaller the top of the ladder could topple back from the wall due to the added weight of the climber on it.

Hair 101

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2008 — Posted in Skin Care

The more you know about your hair, the better you can care for it! Your hair has two separate parts: the root and the shaft. The root is the part of the hair located just under the skin surface. The hair follicle houses the entire hair root. The papilla is where all of the action takes place; it is a rich blood and nerve supply that nourishes the hair shaft and produces hair cells. The bulb is a white sack located on the lower part of the hair that covers the papilla.

The hair shaft is what is grows out of the hair follicle and is what we consider to be hair. It has three parts; the cuticle, cortex and medulla.

The outer layer of your hair shaft is called the cuticle, which holds your hair together. The cells or scales that make up the cuticle layer overlap similarly to the scales on a fish or the shingles on a roof. In healthy hair, the cuticle scales lay flat. In damaged hair, the scales may be missing or broken. (

The cuticle layer is your hair’s armor; it protects the heart, or the cortex, the layer beneath the cuticle. It is made of long, molecular chains of amino acids (protein) and is the largest section of your hair.

Chemical straighteners must penetrate through the cuticle to access the cortex, where shape and color changes take place.

Hair is made of dead keratin (protein) cells that are pushed up through the scalp at an average rate of about one-half inch per month for six inches of hair growth each year.

Keep your hair healthy by eating well, frequent conditioning and gentle treatment.

Alabama Casinos

Posted by admin on April 28th, 2008 — Posted in Great Lifestyle Tips

Alabama is a southern state located in “the Heart of Dixie”,
with a rich history dating back to the Civil War. It is known
for its Magnolia trees, lush gardens, grand old historic homes,
and southern hospitality. Alabama, with a population of over
4,500,000, is adjacent to Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida. The
capital of Alabama is Montgomery, which was the first capital of
the Confederacy.

Alabama casinos are for the most part bingo casinos, which are
run by Native Americans. Casinos can only be run on Native
American land, since there is no legalized gambling as such in
the state of Alabama. The revenue from the Alabama casinos, as a
result, is not taxed by the state of Alabama, since Native
American tribes own them. The majority of gambling in Alabama
can be found at the horse racing tracks and dog races, in
addition to a few slot machines, video gambling machines, and
pull-tab cards at these locations.

There are three Alabama casinos, all located within 20 minutes
from the capital of Montgomery, that do a thriving business. The
Creek Entertainment Center in Atmore is open for gambling Monday
through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Midnight, and Friday and
Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. There are 1,000 bingo
seats for live games, 200 electronic bingo machines, a number of
pull-tab card selections, and one restaurant at the Creek
Entertainment Center. The largest of the three Alabama casinos
is the Tallapoosa Entertainment Center in Montgomery. The
Tallapoosa is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for casino
gambling. There are 480 electronic bingo seats in 21,000 square
feet of gaming space, with a full bar and grill for added
convenience. The list of Alabama casinos also includes the
Riverside Entertainment Center, located in Wetumpka, which is
run by Native Americans as well. The Riverside casino is open 24
hours a day, Monday through Saturday, from 12:00 Noon to closing
time, and Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to closing time. This Alabama
casino has 16,000 square feet of gambling area, a large
selection of over 530 slot machines, and an onsite restaurant.

Alabama could profit enormously from having casinos located
along the Gulf Coast, both onshore and on riverboats. This would
encourage competition between Alabama and its neighboring state,
Mississippi. The revenue to be gained from legalizing Alabama
casinos and the boost it would provide to the economy may
hopefully spur the state government to open Alabama to legalized
gambling in the near future.

Surviving Winter in Style

Posted by admin on April 27th, 2008 — Posted in Home Improvement

Preparing your home to survive the seasons is easy. It is also less expensive to do it yourself. Follow a few simple seasonal, fall and winter, strategies to keep your home in tip top shape and save yourself the headache of costly and time consuming repairs. A man’s home is only his castle if it is not falling down around him.

Fall and Winter Maintenance Tips

Outside Your Home

Using a ladder may be safer, but it also more time consuming, and perhaps even annoying, to get up and down to shift the ladder to a new location. If you do choose to climb onto the roof, do so carefully and be sure to wear footwear with good tread.

Roof and Gutters

  • Remove debris- Mother Nature has a way of depositing many things upon the roofs of homes. Remove the debris from the roof. Use a soft bristled broom to gently sweep all of the debris into a pile. Bag the debris and dispose of it properly.

  • Clean out the gutters- leaves, roofing grit, and other debris have a way of collecting in the gutters. Carefully remove any large pieces by hand and dispose of properly. Use a small tool, such as a spade or trowel, to remove small, gritty pieces.

  • Clean out the downspouts where the gutters meet the walls of your home. An old pair of tongs may be helpful with this task. This will help to prevent a backup of water on your roof.

  • Repair minor damage to the fittings- Tighten any of the fittings that have become loose to ensure that the gutter stays attached to your home.

  • Replace fittings- Any fittings, that have become damaged beyond repair, should be replaced with new ones.

  • Repair minor damage- Silicon caulk and a small piece of aluminum sheet metal may be used to repair small holes that exist in the gutter. If water leaks through the gutters in places that it isn’t supposed to, seepage into the home may result.

  • Flush the roof- Flush everything with water from a hose to make sure that you have gotten every bit of debris.

  • Cover- If you cover the gutter with hardware cloth, you can prevent buildup of debris in your gutters in the future.

    Decks: Pool and Other

  • Sweep debris from the decking and place in the trash.

  • Put away any pool toys, floats, skimmers, foot baths, thermometers, etc.
  • Replace any loose deck nails or screws with new deck screws. First, remove the loose ones.

    Windows and Doorways

  • For windows sills and doorways where the existing caulk has begun to pull away from the surface, remove the old caulk as completely as possible.

  • Be sure to clean the area where the caulking will be applied.
  • Wait until the area to be re-caulked is completely dry and re-caulk.

    Outside Faucets

  • Shut off the inside water valve to each outside faucet to prevent freezing.

  • Turn the outside faucet handle to release any remaining water from the pipes once you have turned off the valve.

    Inside Your Home

Repairs and preventative maintenance inside the home is just as important as outside the home. Possibly, this is more important if you are thinking about your personal comfort. Plan to spend the lesser half of a weekend investigating needed repairs. Then, plan to spend the better part implementing those repairs. This is where a “stitch in time” actually equates to “a minute now or hours later.”

    Insulation

  • Purchase and install a hot water heater-insulating blanket to conserve heat. In the event of a power outage, this may decrease the possibility of water damage.

  • Prevent the freezing of water pipes that exist in an unheated part of your home by insulating them with special pipe insulation. A more expensive and time consuming effort would be to completely relocate the pipes and reroute them to a heated region of your home. Heat tape may also be applied to the pipes in lieu of the other choices.
  • Research the R-value of your existing insulation. Check to see if you have the correct value for each of the areas that are insulated- floors, ceilings, and walls. If you discover that the wrong insulation has been used, replace any areas of your home with the proper R-value.

    Heating Systems

  • Change the filters to your furnace and put in brand new ones each fall.

  • Clean the registers in each room for the best possible efficiency.
  • Move furniture, curtains, and loose carpeting or rugs away from the registers so that the air can circulate freely and to avoid a fire hazard.
  • Check the gas furnace to make sure that the pilot light is blue. If it isn’t, call and have a repairman from the company out to look at it immediately.
  • Hire a chimney cleaner to inspect your chimney and flue and to remove any creosote that has accumulated.

    Lighting and Fans

  • Check all of your lights, lamps, and fans for loose wiring. Replace any that need to be replaced.

  • Clean all of your ceiling fans, lamps, and lighting fixtures.
  • Turn the fan’s power supply off and oil the motor.
  • Switch the direction of the fan to maximize the benefit for circulating the heat in your home.

    Sealing Air Leaks

  • Replace sheer curtains with heavier drapes to retain the heat in your home.

  • Check for air leaks around electrical outlets, pipefittings that exit or enter the home, attic entrances, windows, and doorways.
  • Caulk or add insulation plates (for electrical outlets) to any location that merits it.
  • Apply temporary weather stripping to prevent air and heat leaks at the windows.

    Safety Procedures

  • Purchase smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors for every floor. Be aware that these should be replaced every three to five years depending on the model.

  • Replace the batteries in your alarms at least once a year.
  • Check the alarms to make sure that they are still in good working order.
  • Trim shrubbery away from windows, doorways, and water pipes.
  • Have a professional trim any shrubbery that is growing too closely to electrical wiring.
  • Replace outdoor light bulbs to motion detectors and doorway lights.
  • Invest in a few solar outdoor lighting sets for an inexpensive way to add security to your home.

People spend many hours and fistfuls of dollars to maintain their cars every year. However, they often overlook the family home and the necessary maintenance chores that should be done. Considering the large sum of money that is invested in a home, a few dollars more to keep it in tip top shape is well worth it. Remember, a car may take you where you want to go, but a home is the place you want to be. Baby your home with tender, loving care, and it will return the favor.
